I hate to do gardening so the best way to deal with that is to not have a garden. Even though you have a bare dirt yard you'll get a garden whether you like it or not. The gardens I get are a variety of weeds.
I bought plastic grass and astro turf as an alternative to keeping my backyard weed and plant free.
I have some bare areas of dirt that I didn't have enough astro turf for.
So I use Ground CLEAR by Ortho and it pretty much sterilizes my ground so that nothing can grow at all for up to one year. I did buy a compress air pesticide sprayer to treat the ground.
